Great Gifts: Roku Netflix Player

If you or someone you know has a Netflix account, I highly recommend checking out the Roku Netflix Player. This compact little box connects directly to your TV and your wireless or wired internet connection and allows you to watch the "View Instantly" movies and shows on Netflix on your big screen TV. This thing is easy to set up: Just plug it into the wall and connect the HDMI cable to the TV. Next, configure your internet connection to wired or wireless. Then a quick passcode from the Netflix website and your're ready to go. Don't have an HDMI port? No worries - it has component and composit outputs to support HD and standard def output.

I was a bit worried at first about having enough speed on our internet connection to get the best picture, but even with our standard cable modem speed, the picture is amazing. I've watched lots of video on the internet, but nothing I've seen plays as smooth and clear as this picture. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised.

The downfall of most devices like this is the selection of video available, but Netflix has as good as any, and with a paid subscription, it's all free. TV shows, movies new and old. All there. I only wish we could browse the available content on the TV (you have to go to the Netflix site and add it to your Instant Queue to view it on the Roku box).

Overall, a great device that's really well-executed, and highly recommended.
